A humble house in Delaware

A grand house in Vilnius

So different, so far from each other

Entangled in my earliest memories

Linked together by very thin threads

I am afraid I may never set foot in either ever again

I remember clothes pins hanging on a line

I remember eating popsicles and basking in the sun

At a humble house in Delaware

I remember zucchini growing in a garden

I remember umbrella forts shielding us from the sun

At a grand house in Vilnius

The big scary basement, friends so close we called them cousins

My grandfather's favorite chair, Chips Ahoy from the grocery store

Will I ever get to revisit the humble house in Delaware?

The room my sister and I shared, the snails I stuck on the balcony doors

The red sandbox shaped like a ladybug, the more than a decade old rug

Will I ever get to return to the grand house in Vilnius?

I've lived in four houses, two apartments total by now and I know

Not every place you have lived can be called "home"

These two places are special to me

Memories may fade but my love and my longing will always be
