I am the one that got away
Everything I see, I’m seeing for the last time.
Every time I laugh, it’s closer to the finale.
I am chasing dreams off the end of every page.
My shoes are worn and ink-stained.
The words I leave behind form
Sentences structuring stories
Of the escapades and stunts
I performed by your side.
They can’t close the book until it’s over
But they have been reading with their eyes.
I wanted to get away, so now I will, although
my wishes have changed. I would love to stay.
This chapter will end with my goodbye.
I know that spoils the line a little
But maybe I’ll visit in nine months
So then we can write our sequel.
