my closeness with the sun
Holding on to the the chains of the swing that I’m on,
Pushing myself forward, I am closer to the sun,
And the moon,
And the stars
That day at school,
Right before our old dog died
This one girl and I soared through the sky
Then we came back down to earth,
With our feet inside our sneakers which we rested in the dirt
That night at our friends’ house,
Friends so close we called them family
We jumped from the swings and took off running,
Chasing after bugs that dodged our small dirty hands
All those days spent
At our old neighborhood playgrounds
All those great memories have begun to blur into one
But I’ll never forget the stars, or the moon,
Or my closeness with the sun
