smiling through the tears

I know we’re probably not going to stay friends forever

And I know in the end we won’t be together

But I’m glad I got to meet you

And I’m lucky I got to know you

From dirty jokes and truth or dare

To smiles and laughs and hugs and tears

I only knew you for a year

And we only bonded in the last few months, weeks you had left here

But you had an impact on my life

We helped each other change

For the better

And watched each other grow

Even brighter

Please say you won’t forget our conversations

Or our memories and all our past experiences

I hate those quotes, those people who say

“It’s not a goodbye forever”

But it’s still sad

Because our paths might never cross again

There are always going to be people

Who are easier to say goodbye to

And I could say it to almost anyone else

So I don’t understand why it has to be you

It’s so hard to keep my tears under control

When all I want to do is hug you and never let go

I’m smiling through the tears now,

Smiling just for you

And I promise when I hear the music

I’ll get up and dance like no one’s watching

But even if the whole world was crammed into the same room

I’d still be up and

Dancing just for you

They tell us to stay close

To people who feel like sunshine

But what happens when you have friends

Who are also like the stars,

Always there and shining bright

Our friendship is a million little things and one quiet promise

Sometimes it feels like I’ve known you my whole life

Because that’s how comfortable and close we’ve become

I know it sounds strange but I love you

And even though you’re going somewhere, I’ll still have you

I won’t be seeing you everyday but we can stay in touch

I want you to know my heart feels heavy

Knowing we won’t talk as much

Please swear you won’t forget about me

Because I don’t want to be the only one

Doing the remembering
