Watch Me Climb

She holds a deep understanding of the world around her

But she wonders

If she’ll ever belong

She wants only the best for the people around her

But she is unsure

Of how far she will have to go

To reach her own

She is spirited and generous and free

But she is falling

With no one to save her

It will take her seventeen months to learn

She is soaring through the skies as I write

There is no ‘but’ this time because she has found

Where she belongs and she knows

How far she has had to go

To come into her own
